Submitted by Dessi on Fri, 02/07/2020 - 16:55 Part of our team is in Vienna regarding the work on the "NEMO - Using the New Media in Education to Overcome Migrant Discrimination Online" project. A team of experts from the "Council of Refugee Women in Bulgaria" conducted interviews with students between the ages of 11 and 14, parents and teachers, and the results were published in a report. The report provides detailed information on the profile of migrants in Bulgaria - age, origin and number. The document also provides an overview of the media environment, which makes it clear that its condition is significantly worsened, and misinformation and fake news are a problem with growing influence. A research of the Bulgarian online space showed the highest percentage of hate speech compared to other EU Member States. Bulgarian citizens are less likely to interact with foreigners due to their significantly lower numbers in the country, making it less likely to reduce the influence of prejudice and stereotypes, which in turn is an expression of hatred in cyberspace. Most often, children are victims. The increasing use of the Internet and the earlier age at which children have access to the network are key factors for its impact and importance in their lives. It is therefore quite possible for them to easily become targets of discrimination, stereotypes and prejudices. For more information, please visit the project website: https://project-nemo.eu/
